Planning to visit Canford Recycling Centre in the coming weeks? It’s good to know what to expect when you arrive and how to prepare for your visit. Simple preparation tasks can not only save you time when you get to us but also save you money too.
Upon turning off Magna Road onto Arena Way you will follow a long driveway leading you to the recycling centre. The road is plenty big enough for all vehicle sizes to use, so whether you visit us in a small van or large HGV vehicle, rest assured that you will be able to get to us safely.

Depending on what time you arrive, you may join a short queue before getting to the weighbridge once it’s clear. Did you know that our busiest times are during lunch or before the working day starts, pre-9am? Beat the queues by visiting us outside of these hours!
If you are disposing of hazardous waste you would have already pre-booked a slot, so regardless of the amount of waste you are disposing of, we will be expecting you so we can prepare the paperwork. (You will still have to join the queue but speeds up the process with the paperwork being completed in advance)
Think of this as a large set of scales. You will drive your vehicle onto the weighbridge when it’s clear and then you can get out of your vehicle and report to the weighbridge office. Here we will take the following information:
- Vehicle registration plate
- Waste type(s) you are tipping
- Where the waste comes from
- You may also be asked to provide your waste carrier licence
Once your vehicle has been weighed you will be directed to where you need to tip your rubbish. If you are doing multiple waste streams, you will need to return to the empty weighbridge in between tipping each type of rubbish.
Here’s an overview of some of the common waste streams that are disposed of:
- Mixed waste
- Wood waste
- Green waste
- Hardcore, Tarmac and Concrete
- Low Grade Clinical
- Plasterboard Disposal & Recycling
- Hazardous waste
- Upvc Disposal
Once you’ve finished tipping…
Go back to the weighbridge which will do the final weigh of your cleared vehicle, you can then head back to the office where the operator will provide you with a ticket allowing you to pay for your tipped waste.
Tips on preparing for your visit
We always ask people visiting us to have considered whether their waste can be segregated. This isn’t only for our benefit but for yours too.
We offer considerably lower tipping rates for waste that has already been segregated. Don’t worry, you don’t have to do multiple trips back and forth to your site to pick it up. If (for example) you are visiting us in a van, you may segregate the waste within the van. We can then use our automated weighbridge to work out how much each waste type weighs. It’s as simple as that!
Another top tip is to pre-book a slot if you are planning to visit with a large volume of waste (or if you are bringing hazardous waste), this may avoid you waiting around for so long and helps our team to know what to expect.
Lastly, ensure that you have the licences and permits you need to dispose of commercial waste (if required). We have written an article on all the legal requirements which you can read here.

If you use our tipping site for commercial purposes and work on projects across the South, it’s good to know that we also have another recycling centre in Evercreech near Shepton Mallet. This accepts all waste streams (similar to Canford) apart from hazardous.
