Hazardous waste disposal at our Somerset tip | Commercial Recycling News

Southwood is now accepting all hazardous waste

Exciting news! Our Somerset tip can now accept all hazardous waste.
Last month, we received our updated Environmental Permit for Southwood Recycling Centre, meaning we can accept even more waste into our Somerset waste disposal facility.

What has changed

Prior to this permit change, our Southwood Recycling Centre was limited to the types of waste it could receive. The licence didn’t cover any hazardous waste, therefore, we couldn’t accept waste streams such as asbestos, aerosols, batteries or paints.

However, as of September 2023, we have a new licence which allows us to accept all hazardous waste – just like Canford Recycling Centre.

What waste can now be accepted at our Somerset tip?

As you can imagine, this now means that you can bring a lot more waste to us at our Somerset waste disposal site.

Hazardous waste streams now accepted include:

If you have a waste type that isn’t mentioned above and are unsure if you can tip it with us, give our friendly team a call on 01749 830889.

What does this mean for you?

We are thrilled to be expanding our Somerset waste disposal facility’s permit, as this will make it easier for you to dispose of all your waste in one safe and environmentally friendly way.

Tip everything in one trip

This expansion means that you no longer have to find somewhere else to dispose of any hazardous waste you might have and can instead bring it all to us in one trip.

Peace of mind

Having a full environmental permit can give you peace of mind that you are tipping with a company that is compliant with all laws and regulations around waste management, transportation and disposal.

Minimal environmental impact

Environmental permits are designed to protect the environment by setting strict limits and conditions on activities that have the potential to pollute air, water, or land. Our permit means that we follow strict guidance and regulations when managing waste so that our work doesn’t negatively impact the environment or those around it. This means you can tip with the confidence that you aren’t harming the environment, and know that we will handle and dispose of any waste in a way that will avoid impacting the environment.

With competitive prices, we are now your all-in-one tipping solution.

How to prepare before visiting our Somerset tip?

At our Somerset tip, we have separate waste bays for the various waste streams that we accept. Therefore, to make your trip easy and smooth we recommend separating your waste into different streams before visiting us.

We require visitors to wear PPE when at our facilities, so if you have a hard hat and high-vis jacket or vest, please bring those along with you.

If you don’t own either of these, you can buy them at our weighbridge.
