Earlier this month we opened our latest inert tipping facility in Wincanton near Somerset called Orchard Farm. In this article, we will be explaining a little bit more about the new site, including what wastes you can tip at this facility, pricing, how to find us and some FAQs you may need answered before visiting.
What counts as inert waste?
Inert wastes are wastes that will not decompose over time and are unreactive, but in many cases, they can be repurposed into other aggregates. Examples of the inert waste that our new facility accepts include:
Could my waste be rejected?
If you are following our guidelines in regards to the waste types we accept here then it is unlikely to be rejected, however, do keep in mind the following:
- Wet loads may be rejected
- Tipping multiple loads will need to follow the CL:AIRE protocol code of practice. This covers things such as land contamination risk management and whether excavated materials are classified as waste or not. Learn more about the CL:AIRE protocol.
Why can’t I tip other waste types here?
This tipping facility has been specifically designed to only accept inert waste as opposed to mixed waste or hazardous waste like our other facilities do.
The site has actually been built as an engineering project. Due to the location of the site, right next to the A303 dual carriageway, a purpose built acoustic bund allows it to act as a noise limiter for the residents nearby.
Can anyone use this tipping facility?
Yes, Orchard Farm is available for anyone to use – however is more suited to contractors or tradespeople that can tip large amounts of inert waste at one time.
Do I have to book a slot for tipping?
No, you can just turn up to our inert tip within the opening hours stated below, however, for larger jobs we do need to know in advance so that a site report can be prepared if required.
If you are unsure if your load counts as ‘large’, just get in touch.
What are the tipping prices at Orchard Farm?
Full loads (4,6 & 8 wheel tippers) are charged at just £80.00+VAT per load. If you are planning on regularly using our inert tipping facility, we can arrange monthly credit accounts for your business to allow for easier tipping.
What are the opening hours?
Monday to Friday 7:00am – 5:30pm
Can you support with waste transportation to the inert facility?
Yes! If you create a large amount of inert waste but cannot get it delivered to us, we have various options for waste transportation via our third party providers. Depending on the volume of waste, we have a range of vehicles available for hire including 6 and 8 wheeler tipper trucks and grab lorries.
There is also the option to hire a skip, which are available in 4, 6 or 8yd options and when filled will be collected from your site. If you require something larger than a skip we can also source 15, 20 and 35 yard Rollonoff (RoRo) containers.
