Asbestos disposal near me?

Businesses and individuals often pose the question; where can I go for asbestos disposal near me?

Asbestos waste is hazardous and requires special processing, which means businesses, tradespeople and waste contractors are extremely limited as to where they can go to safely and legally dispose of their asbestos waste.

There are a handful of landfill sites in the counties that surround Dorset, which can accept asbestos waste but they all have different acceptance conditions and are only really geared for larger lorries.

The availability of local landfills accepting asbestos waste will be further reduced when Pound Bottom Landfill is closed on the 31/01/2018.

If I can’t use a landfill, where can I go?

Now we have established that in most cases landfill sites don’t offer a suitable answer to the question of ‘asbestos disposal near me?’. It seems fitting to introduce Canford Recycling Centre, a fully licensed facility in Wimborne, Dorset, that can accept asbestos waste.

Battery disposal sites near Poole and Bournemouth

Disposal of batteries can be an inconvenient chore and often causes confusion with regards to how various batteries should be disposed of and/or recycled.

There is a range of battery types which can be recycled, these include but are not limited to;

  • Household batteries including ‘button’ batteries from watches
  • Battery packs from laptops, mobile phones, power tools and remote control units
  • Car batteries

Some councils make the collection of batteries a service inline with household waste, however, in most areas you will need to take them to a licensed recycling centre.

Why are some batteries classed as hazardous?

Effectively, all batteries are classed as hazardous waste because they can contain corrosive materials such as sulphuric acid or potassium hydroxide, or heavy metals such as cadmium and lead. Under certain conditions, these materials can be explosive and very dangerous. Source: and G P Batt

However, some household batteries such as Duracell AA, maybe alkaline and if labelled so can be disposed of safely at home as these are not potentially dangerous. As directed by their website: “Alkaline batteries can be safely disposed of with normal household waste.”

How do I recycle my old batteries?

If you have batteries to dispose of, our recycling centres at Commercial Recycling can help you.

In order to complete the disposal of your waste batteries at one of our recycling centres you will need the following:

  • A consignment note that is pre-completed and ready for final signature. Alternatively, you will need to sign a hazardous waste declaration form to confirm that the items originate from a ‘separately collected domestic fraction’, in this case, there is no need for the consignment note.
  • A pre-booked slot for disposal – simply get in touch with a member of our staff to do this.
  • Effectively and securely packed the batteries so they can be safely transported and tipped at one of our sites.

At Commercial Recycling, we offer a competitive battery disposal service and charge our service at a per KG rate. Please get in touch to find out our latest price list.
