At Commercial Recycling, we are committed to helping many local businesses with their recycling and waste disposal. One industry that our recycling solutions are particularly suited to are mechanics, garages, and other associated businesses.
In this article, we have outlined the various types of waste that mechanics and garages typically produce and how you can dispose of it legally, compliantly and affordably with the help of our recycling and waste disposal services.
Scrap metal disposal
At our Wimborne Recycling Centre and Southwood Recycling Centre, we have a Scrap Metal Dealers Licence which allows you to tip this type of waste legally with us. So whether you have scrap from vehicles, equipment, tools or anything else, we can help!
At Commercial Recycling, we request that you pre-book a scrap metal disposal with us before you come to tip your waste. This allows us to better understand what type of metal it is and put the relevant disposal processes in place.
Due to the fact that metals cannot naturally decompose, they must be separated and sorted in order for them to be melted down (in most cases) so they can be reused and recycled.
How much does scrap metal disposal cost?
For standard scrap metal, you will need to use our weighbridge for us to calculate the tonnage that you are scrapping. View our price list for current rates.
Fuel / oil, oily rags & oil filter disposal
Due to the harmful nature of fuel and oil that is used within your industry, it is classed as hazardous and therefore needs to be disposed of in an appropriate manner. This is also the case for oily rag disposal and oil filter disposal.
If you wish to store your waste oil/filters onsite before disposal, we can provide you with a range of hazardous waste storage containers that are suitable for holding and transporting this type of waste. These include:
- Tight head drum – for the waste oil – 25L or 205L capacity
- Clip top drums – for the oil filters and rags – 30L, 60L or 205L capacity
How much does fuel or oil disposal cost?
Depending on how the fuel or oil is contained (such as drum / container size), we offer different prices for disposal. There is a low minimum charge of 10kg or 10L. View our tipping price list for full details.
We accept tyres on or off their rims, and no consignment note is required as they aren’t classed as hazardous. We generally see many car and motorcycle tyres, van, truck and lorry tyres and tractor and trailer tyres come through our gates.
How much does tyre disposal cost?
This is calculated per tyre however if you have a large number of tyres to dispose of we can calculate a per tonnage rate.
Currently*, our tyre disposal prices start from just £7 per tyre. View the full price list.

Have it collected
Depending on the volume of waste that you produce at your car garage, you may not want to always visit a recycling centre and instead you may want to have it collected.
