Our guide to Asbestos Disposal
Asbestos is a hazardous waste and requires specialist treatment. Therefore businesses, tradespeople and waste contractors are extremely limited when it comes to safely and legally disposing of their asbestos waste.
Should I transport my asbestos waste or have it collected?
The easiest solution is to have our specialist team collect the asbestos because it reduces your handling of the waste and eliminates the difficulties of you transporting a hazardous waste.
If you do choose to transport the waste yourself, please ensure you are aware of all the challenges involved before getting started and that you have the appropriate container for the waste and PPE (personal protective equipment).
BE AWARE! – If you use a third-party contractor it is your responsibility to ensure they are a licensed waste carrier and permitted to transport asbestos.
How should my waste asbestos be contained?
If Commercial Recycling is collecting the asbestos you will be provided with the appropriate sized, fully enclosed container for the waste being disposed of. If you or your licensed contractor are transporting the waste to Canford Recycling Centre, it must be double wrapped or bagged (outer layer should be transparent) and sealed with no holes.
Things you need to check before tipping at Canford Recycling Centre
Asbestos waste is hazardous and for it to be accepted at Canford Recycling Centre the following steps must be completed prior to setting off.
- All wastes must be sealed and double wrapped or bagged in 1000+ gauge plastic.
- Ideally, the waste must be pre-booked in at least 24 hours in advance of tipping.
- A hazardous waste consignment note must be partially completed to enable it to be finished and signed when the load is tipped. A member of our team can start this process once the load is pre-booked.
Please note asbestos waste disposed of at Canford Recycling Centre must be manually offloaded on site. Therefore we strongly recommend sheets of asbestos are individually wrapped and sealed bags of asbestos weigh no more than 25kg each.
